A different post is on the agenda today.
I haven’t spoken about my feelings on my blog for a while.. probably because I imagine it’s pretty boring to read! But I thought, instead, I’d put a positive spin on a tough time I’m going through right now. So, here are ways I’m going to start loving myself more. Hopefully it will come in handy to anyone else who’s also suffering with a case of the January blues..
How To Start Loving Yourself Now
♥ Get rid of all the negative influences in your life
I’m talking guys who have made you feel worthless; so-called “friends” who only want you when it’s convenient; people you feel you have to keep around because of shared history, but who aren’t positive influences on your life any more. Take a deep breath and delete that number. I struggle with this myself, but even as I wrote this paragraph, I deleted that guy’s number.
♥ Listen to music that fills you with happiness & confidence
I seemed to stop listening to music for a while (unheard of for my teenage self!), but lately it’s been one of the things that has got me through tough days. If I start to feel panicky or overwhelmed, out comes the music. For me, it’s Stevie Nicks, Florence & the Machine, Katy Perry, Lana del Rey et al. Strong ferocious ladies who don’t take any crap. I find that inspiring.
♥ Make time for yourself
I’ve started taking more time to read books, indulge in my skincare routine, book massages and reignite my passions for the things I used to love. When my self esteem slides, all I want to do is sleep and eat, and it’s not healthy. Sometimes you do really need those things, but not when they are all that you do. Light that Jo Malone candle (like I just did), crack out a face mask and slip into fresh sheets. Or, even simpler, a cup of tea really is a remedy for anything – I never believed that until I tried it.. your mum is always right.
♥ Take time out to be more mindful & clear your mind
One thing I used to do, and something I’m going to do before I go to sleep tonight, was use the Headspace app – an app focused on the practices of mindfulness and meditation. For only 10 minutes a night, you can free your mind of thoughts and feel more grounded. I don’t know about you, but when I’m over-thinking and worrying, I need to centre myself and focus on simple things like the rise and fall of my chest and the background noises around me.
